Shihan Lindsay

Shihan (Master) Lindsay Guy 5th Dan is the founder of Guy's Karate School.

He commenced training in the Traditional art of Shotokan Karate-Do in 1985 with Sensei Celso Bauer in Maitland NSW.

He obtained his Shodan (1st Dan Black Belt) in 1990, his Nidan (2nd Dan Black Belt) in 1992 with Ken Sei Kan under chief instructor Mark Passmore. Sensei Lindsay along with Sensei Paul Parker took over running Kim Dojo in Maitland some where about then.

Two years later he opened a dojo in Forster NSW, where he operated for approx 8 years. On returning to the Hunter Valley he began training with Shigan Taekwondo, obtaining his 1st Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo in 2007. Opening his own centre in Rutherford in 2008.   

Sensei Lindsay acheived his 2nd Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do in 2011. Late 2011 a decision was made to return to the teaching of traditional Shotokan Karate, when Guy's Karate School was formed.

2012 the club established itself at Telarah Public School

In July 2017 moving to their own centre in Rutherford

1985 - Commenced training with Ken-Sei-Kan in Maitland with Celso Bauer
1987 - Won North Coast Open (Kumite) in Coffs Harbour
Selected in NSW Karate Team to compete in Nationals in Adelaide SA, Bring home 2nd place in Kumite
1988- 1st place over 80kg in NSW Federation of Australian Karate-Do Organisation Championships
1990- Selected in the NSW State Karate Team to compete at Nations in Brisbane QLD.
Toured New Zealand with Tasman Cup team winning team Sparring event, beating NZ 6-0
Obtained 1st Dan Black Belt
1991- Toured Japan with Australian Karate Team, placing 4th in the heavy weight sparring
2006- 1st in Australian ISKA Championships (contact Sparring)
2007- 2nd in US Open Karate Championships, Florida USA
1st in NSW Country Championships Tamworth in both Contact and point Sparring
2008- World Cup Sydney Australia obtained 2nd in point sparring and 3rd in contact Sparring.

2013 - Awarded Ïnstructor of the Year” by the International Sport Karate Association

2013 - Inducted into ISKA “Martial Arts Hall of Fame”

2016 - 1st ISKA  National No.1 placed in Point Sparring

2017 - Awarded “Referee of the Year”by the International Sport Karate Association

Martial arts have been a way of life for Lindsay Guy.

The 50-year-old was inducted into the International Sport Karate Association Martial Arts hall of fame last month as well as being named the senior instructor of the year.

The honours were given for superior leadership and teaching performance.

Guy, who teaches at Guy’s Karate School at Telarah, said he was caught totally unaware by the accolades.

At first I didn’t even hear my name called, I had no idea what I’d won,” he said.
